Welcome to The Green Resources

workshop.jpg The Green Resources platform features information on eco-friendly materials that can be used in stop-motion animation productions to eliminate harm to either health or environment throughout the entire production and supply chain.

Created as a spin-off of the Green Stop-Mo Lab seminars, puppet makers, art directors, producers, and product desners can contribute sustainable solutions by sharing their experiences in order to build up a body of green know-how applicable to the worldwide stop-motion animation community.

The use of hazardous materials in stop-motion animation film production often requires masks, ventilators, gloves, and ear protectors. Modeling compounds, adhesives, paints, and thermoplastic polymers may contain stabilizers and plasticizers that are carcinogenic and mutagenic. We must find alternatives.

Various inherent material properties exist because of 3.8 billion years of evolution. Natural principles can be adapted to product design. Bio-based materials sourced from agricultural waste, water-resistant textiles, adhesives and colors without pigments or dyes have been developed after the analysis of the structural modularity of natural materials.

The responsible management of energy and resources, and the reuse and recycling of materials for circularity can also be applied to stop-motion animated productions. Let’s take a look at what is already out there that works well. The materials transition is a challenging process, but together we can give it a big boost if we share information, on-the-job experience, and ideas to inspire one another.
